At Away Days Brewing Co, we hand-pull traditional cask ale the British way. With two rotating cask ales available at any given time. Our cask-conditioned beers are racked unfiltered and unpasteurized, then served at cellar temperature with gentle carbonation — creating a soft, full-flavored, “living” beer that’s different from keg-draft in both taste and character.
Cask ale, or real ale, is beer served the traditional British way. It’s unfiltered and unpasteurized, and it finishes fermenting naturally in the cask it’s served from. No added CO₂ forced carbonation.
So what makes cask ale different?
Most modern draft beer is pushed from a keg using gas. Cask ale isn’t. It’s gently poured by gravity hand-pump, which gives it a softer mouthfeel and lets the malt, hops, and yeast speak for themselves.
Cask ale is….Lower in carbonation, served slightly warmer (cellar temp, not warm — there’s a difference). Fuller in flavor, without being heavy, it’s beer with texture and depth.
At Away Days, we brew and serve cask ale because it rewards patience and care. Once a cask is tapped, the clock is ticking — it’s alive, changing slightly day by day. That means our cellar management and timing matters. It’s not the easiest way to serve beer. But it is the right way.
